The New Face of a Progressive America
The United States is not what it used to be.
Countless connotations exist in that simple sentence. Pick your favorite political position and use the sentence
above to begin illustrating how the nation has gone astray. It’s quite easily done. Too often, disappointed and disaffected people look to restore past glory rather than achieve new triumphs at which to marvel.
The United States is not what it used to be, and it never will be again. The past has passed. That doesn’t mean the future can’t be better.
Red Brown and Blue intends to move forward, embracing a future created by positive political action and thought. The old paradigm of left vs. right, liberal vs. conservative, Democrat vs. Republican is a broken machine that no longer serves the American people. Our citizenry is stuck between Red State and Blue State ideologies that allow no room for common ground, no acceptable compromise, and no concession that the opposition just might have equally valid points to consider. This way will not work.
Our coming contributions to the national dialogue will examine issues affecting the people of the United States, their causes, and changes that could be made to improve the lives of people impacted by those issues. We will not be pointing fingers in accusation. We will not submerge our share of the conversation in insults or derision. It is no longer useful or interesting to lay the blame at the feet of any particular political party or president when complicit gridlock is the calling card of both factions. We will explore solutions independent of party affiliation or favor.
Does this mean that our opinions and points-of-view will strive for neutrality? Will we never demonstrate passion for a cause, ange
r and frustration over a decision, or tendency toward particular values? It means none of those things. Our site exists to share our opinions, and our opinions will advocate progressive policies often in conflict with conservative-leaning traditionalism. We recognize that all things are not equal for all people and, in the hope of achieving equality, some long-standing practices must retire. That said, we also intend to examine ideas from all corners as we form our opinions and let fact weigh heavier than faction.
The face of the population in the middle of the Red and Blue war is not what it used to be, either. It used to be mainly white, but as time marches on, that face grows more and more brown – a middle value that can be created through combinations of multiple colors. Highlighting the differences among ourselves is counter-productive and old fashioned, but acknowledging that our history created different American experiences for different groups of people strengthens our understanding of ourselves going forward. Red Brown and Blue will provide notes of American life from a range of contributing voices, each of which add to the American song.
Our long-term goal is to create a higher-level conversation in the political sphere, comprised of equal parts reason, compassion, determination, and foresight. Ultimately, Red Brown and Blue would like to start or shape positive ideas that resonate nationally and globally. As we move forward revealing the new face of a progressive America, we hope you’ll give our ideas serious thought and join the conversation.
