I really have a hard time with this issue. There is no way I should pay for even more health care for those areas. WHY are there more uninsured individuals in those areas? You HAVE to admit that a large portion of these people have jumped over the border without a single thought of the effect that will have on my life. I know, because there are dozens of individuals in my work that opt out of the health care we offer them so they can continue to get health care for free through medicare and the state health care. While I am having to pay for my health care AND that of my coworkers that have the same option does not compute. NO TO THE PUBLIC OPTION

Texas needs standards and floors not flexibility! The “opt-out clause” is just what Texas doesn’t need! Sadly, left to their own devices, Texas leadership (Perry & Republicans) will choose political ideology and a minimalist approach over people. For example, this last legislative session no significant health legislation was passed because it was held up by the fight over Voter ID. So let’s be real, what make us think under a tight re-election fight that Perry would be open to the public option?

Texas needs real reforms that will bring about not only access and affordable health care but competition like the public option. The public option is the golden solution but it a critical component. The way proposals are shaping up, Texas Hispanics are more likely to be eligible for the public option given our low median income, inaccessibility to ESI and likelihood to work in small business and be uninsured.

So we must ask ourselves, what is my role and what can I do? Well, you can start with fighting for robust public option that include our whole community including immigrants. Call your Representative this week or participate in major rally in Austin for Health Care Reform on 11/14 @1pm @ State Capital.

Actually, a single payer system is the way to go, at least if justice, equity, and true reform are the intentions.
I agree, people will need to rise above their fears and make Congress understand that inaction, or continued ineffective action will be costlier politically than passing either single payer or the "public option".

True reform will also include restructuring the delivery system, but that will never happen because of the AHA.

You are right, there needs to be a public option, however, there will not be. The moderate democrats just viewed the New York and Virgina elections, for Governor, there is no way they will vote for public option , they are too scared, no Republican will ever vote for this, they do not c are enough about the poor, the uninsured , you k now who they want, the higher up middle class , this is a shame and the public needs to stand up and voice their opinion ,will you see this, NO... only the tea parties will be shown on the news channels.. they are the new "IN CROWD" ... and the GOP loves it. It is the moral obligation and duty to all elected officials to see to it that Americans should have guaranteed health care . As long as the big insurance companies are buying them off, we will not see it ... as long as the republicans get to have the tea parties and the idiots, like Palin, Beck, Limbaugh to be their leaders, we will not have it. America needs to wake up, it won't be Barack Obama , ruining this country, look to the far right.
